The row between Mombasa cement philathopic activities and Mombasa county government. Article by Jewa Ian
It is evident that the seating Mombasa county governor, H.E Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir is having some insecurities about his second term in office come 2027. He has been curbing Hasubhai, the owner of Mombasa cement from extending his generous hand of charity and compassion to the residents of Mombasa county. Allegedly, Hasubhai has already started transferring some of the sculptures to Kilifi county. As a journalist I had to find out whether this is true. However it came to my notice that the photo that went viral online where the sculptures at Makupa roundabout are being removed. It is actually a photo taken when the sculptures were initially installed. To verify this I visited Makupa roundabout only for me to find the sculptures still intact.
The afternoon of 26th May 2023 made me run into a Mombasa resident named Juma Muhammad who was furious about the current Mombasa governor. I qouted him saying, " aaHuyu Governor aache ubinafsi. Kama yeye ni tajiri na anajiweza atuache sisi wenye kuhitaji msaada tusaifiwe na Mombasa cement." Confirming from his story he also confessed that he is also one of the beneficiaries of the hospital bills paid to bedridden patients at Coast general hospital by Mombasa cement company.
Now, from the above piece of writing. I can strongly say that in deed the setting Mombasa county governor is having insecurities about his second term in office. This is evident from a viral video posted on facebook by Tycoo News. The video show an old man speaking bitterly that he was the governor's chief campaigner in his resident but he is yet to see the fruits of that. He also added that he is disappointed by the governor for attempting to stop the charity works done by Mombasa cement company. A threat was made by the old man saying that woe unto the governor if Mombasa cement leaves Mombasa county for Kilifi county.
As a journalist I'm an opinion leader and my opinion is that H.E Abdulswamad should hold hands with Mombasa cement company since this will benefit the residents. It is without regret that saying that Mombasa cement has win the hearts of Mombasa resident. Allegedly the governor's advisors are misleading him by telling him that Mombasa cement is doing some charity work on the basics of politics. When it comes to people's welfare and emotions one should not bring politics into it.
What have I learnt from this whole row? I have learnt that someone who does not defend himself when fought clearly knows that there is no need to fight. Now time being the greatest healer, the governor of Mombasa will regret once he sees his "enemy" getting help from his own county residents.
Good one bro
